The past few weeks have had some highs and lows. My exercise and progress were going well when I moved wrong and had increased back pain! PANIC!! My wonderful TC coach talked me off the ledge! I backed off on my activity a lot for a few days and things got better. I felt like I had taken a few steps BACKWARDS after making such good progress. I talked with my coach about the other ways I’ve made tons of progress, my waist is smaller, my clothes are looser, and I’m stronger. I’m glad we are working on making me healthier in lots of ways! After a few days, the pain and discomfort was back to previous and I was back to making serious progress!
I got to ride my bike for 5 minutes around the block! Riding felt wonderful! But a few hours later my radicular pain in left leg increased :( Backed off exercise again! Stretching and core strengthening helped me improve again. Stretch, stretch, stretch!!! Then I went on a walk, got lost, walked a lot farther than planned and had more pain in left leg. More stretching!
This past Saturday I got to ride my bike for 5 minutes around the block again! Pure JOY! No increase in pain that evening or the next day! Yay!!! On Tuesday I got to ride 5 minutes again!! Progress! Stretching, strengthening, determination, progress!
I am feeling more confident in the process and my progress! I have lost over 10 pounds, 3 inches from my waist and feeling skinny:)
On an even better note I have I have gained new perspective on nutrition. I never thought was possible or even NEEDED. All my life I have loved sweets!!! And had no will power or control to not eat them! With all my coaching I have learned how to eat healthy, but more important I have loved the results so I have been able to resist Brick Oven sweet potato cake!! Even with co-workers taunting me and trying to talk me into eating it. I held strong :) Then I went to a co-worker's going away breakfast full of donuts! I love donuts! I was not even tempted! Because I was down a pant size and feeling skinny!! I am much more picky with my calories and what is worth it or not! Donuts= not worth it. Cannoli at my favorite Italian Restaurant (Trattoria Giorgio)= so worth it! And because my other choices were good, I did not gain any weight.
I am enjoying this journey, even with the ups and downs. I am learning so much, being held accountable for my goals, and feeling better than I have in a long time! Thank you Total Cyclist! Now off for my after dinner walk :)
