Associate Coach

I began mountain biking in college as a way to keep in shape outside of the soccer season and as a way to satiate my sense of adventure and desire to stay active. As I was studying towards a B.S. in Physics, I quickly realized the direct relationship between cycling and much of what I was studying. College graduation brought with it an end to soccer and competition. I began racing mountain bikes in 2001 because I needed a way to be competitive. I switched to road racing in 2002 and moved up to Category 2 by the end of the 2003 season. After a few seasons of having my experience catch and surpass my ability, I began working with Total Cyclist and quickly improved, winning two state crit championships and upgrading to Category 1.

I began racing on the track in 2007, at the same time I decided to return to school and earn a M.S. in Applied Physics. I further developed my love of science and began thinking of how I could apply the scientific method to my training. I’m looking forward to coaching others, especially in track disciplines. Of the various cycling disciplines, track may be the most dependent on picking the correct equipment and position. A scientific approach can make large differences in the only sport that measures to 1/1000 of a second.
